Monday marked six months since Sandy hit the jersey shore. Without originally intending to, I spent most of my weekend at various beaches along the Jersey Shore: from lavallette, to point pleasant, then back to lavallette, and finally to brick. The one beach I’ve yet to make it back to is ship bottom, on long beach island. Last time I was on the island the area was closed to non-residents and I haven’t had any pressing desire to go back. I knew every one of those streets, from the life guards who work them to the locals who live on them to the businesses along them. The devastation in mantoloking and lavallette [the towns represented in the pictures shown here] are heartbreaking but for me, ship bottom is going to hit home the hardest. Even six months later, I’m just not ready to confront that yet.
